Madeline Albright or What does your jewelry convey?

I picked up the book Read My Pins, by Madeleine Albright, because I love pins and I thought it would be interesting. It is very interesting!  I can't tell you everything in the book of course, but if you want to read it, you sure can borrow it. I am truly one of the most unpolitical people you will ever meet. I always have been. I almost flunked American Government, there is nothing about it that interests me at all. Except, I did read this book. This lady was a strong outspoken Ambassador to the United Nations and then Secretary of State 1997 -2001. She describes that job as, meeting with political leaders to get them to do what you want them to do or, better said making them want to do, what you want them to do. I paraphrased that from her book. It happened by accident when she was meeting with Saddam Hussein that a serpent pen she wore, was pronounced as a statement. You see there had been a poem published that compared her to a serpent. Instead of being offended she used the poem and the pin as a way to get across that she was not to be messed with! The book also digs into what pins say about a person's position in society, such as knights, generals, kings and such. It is an interesting read.

This book made me think about what we like to say with our jewelry. I worked in a school for many years. Some teachers wore pins that stated different things about their jobs. Some showed what they taught, the ABC's, many had hearts on them, saying that they love their jobs and their students. A wedding ring states you are married, a friendship bracelet says you have a bestie. I once had a pin that was a shower door and you could open it up and there was a naked lady in a shower cap covering her naughty parts. No, it doesn't say I am a nudist. But it does say I have a huge sense of humor and love whimsical things. I think that I talk about this subject a lot.  I talk about it because I think that for some people jewelry is an extension of their personality. So. . . think about, what does your jewelry say about you, or what are you trying to say with your jewelry? Please comment below. This is my way of learning about you too!

I have a huge assortment of pins! Many are from my days teaching at the elementary school. I also have a lot from my mother. She almost single handedly kept the Avon sales lady in business! She wore some, but many are still newish the box. Pins, rings, necklaces—she bought most of the items that came out! These days I don’t wear anything consistently—only when I have to really dress up!

My only piece of jewelry that I wear consistently is my wedding band which says I’m married to this wonderful jewelry artist!
