Mental Health Month

Mental Health Month

May

Oh my, what happened to April and May?  We have stayed pretty busy, my birthday, my mother in the hospital and after care, physical therapy for myself, the women’s show, etc., in April. Then May company and a trip to see Jerry’s brother and sister in law.  The point is, that sometimes life is like that. We often get so busy that we can’t even say what it is we have been doing. So, I am double late. But I haven’t forgotten you.

I sometimes feel cheated out of time to just create, make what I want to make, learn a new technique, do some “me” time. I bet you feel that way too. Maybe you don’t spend time making jewelry, maybe you paint pictures or work in clay, maybe you write stories or poems or bake cookies. Whatever purposeful activity you do, it becomes a part of you and it is important to your mental and emotional health to participate in that activity. Incidently, May was Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental Health Awareness month has been held in May since 1949. It is very important to increase awareness of mental illnesses and destroy the stigmas surrounding those illnesses. But, it is also about checking our own mental health. To stay mentally healthy we need to eat healthy and exercise, keeping our body healthy improves or mental health. By the way, don’t skip those regular checkups with your doctor. Having healthy relationships improve our mental health also. I always say, “hang around with people who lift you up, not tear you down!” If you do find yourself struggling with a mental health issue, don’t delay and ask for help with a mental health professional.

After Robinson’s craft Sale June 3rd, I will have some time to hang at the shop. Hit me up if you want to come by or want to do a class.
